Kris Aquino’s Health Update: Still Not Fit to Work

Legendary TV personality Kris Aquino took to social media to provide an update on her health, dispelling recent reports about a potential return to work. She emphasized that despite ongoing treatment, she remains unfit for professional commitments.
In a heartfelt Instagram post, Aquino shared a photo with close friends who visited her in Manila. She captioned it with lyrics from Danny Gokey’s “Tell Your Heart to Beat Again”, expressing deep gratitude for their unwavering support.
“Thank you @chinitaprincess, @milesocampo, @darla, Dr. @rainiertanalgo (my pain management doctor), and Dr. @hazeldavidmd. I haven’t posted anything because I didn’t want those praying for me to feel sad and lose faith. May I clarify? I’m not yet ‘fit to work’ because I’m very underweight—37 kilos (82 pounds),” she wrote.
Focusing on Recovery
Aquino assured her supporters that she is actively working toward gaining weight and improving her overall health.
“My deal with my team of doctors (Dr. Jombi, Dr. Jonnel, @drkatcee, and Dr. Rainier) is that my WBC (white blood cell count) doesn’t fall below 5.5 for four straight weeks, my hemoglobin improves to at least 9.5 (since my anemia is both hereditary and nutritional), and my weight holds steady at 90 pounds (40.8 kilos),” she explained.
As she continues treatment, Aquino also revealed that she has been diagnosed with additional autoimmune diseases.
Battling Multiple Autoimmune Diseases
Aquino previously shared that she was suffering from six autoimmune conditions:
- Autoimmune Thyroiditis
- Chronic Spontaneous Urticaria
- EGPA (Eosinophilic Granulomatosis with Polyangiitis, a rare life-threatening form of vasculitis)
- Systemic Sclerosis
- Lupus/SLE (Systemic Lupus Erythematosus)
- Rheumatoid Arthritis
Now, she has been diagnosed with:
- Fibromyalgia
- Polymyositis (a condition causing muscle inflammation and weakness)
- Mixed Connective Tissue Disease
Despite the daunting list, Aquino maintains her humor and resilience.
“Bimb said, ‘Mama, you belong in X-Men because you’re a mutant.’ Those closest to me now joke, ‘May nadagdag na naman ba sa autoimmune collection mo?’” she quipped.
Staying Strong Amid Personal and Health Challenges
Aquino admitted that her severe allergies to NSAIDs, steroids, pain relievers, antibiotics, and Immunoglobulin Therapy have made managing her conditions even more challenging. However, she remains determined to push through.
She also addressed recent speculation about her personal life, revealing that she is currently single.
“I’ve always been honest with all of you. For some time now, I have been single—no boyfriend, so clearly no fiancé. I never gave details while we were a couple, so it makes no sense to elaborate now,” she shared.
Looking Ahead with Hope
Despite her struggles, Aquino remains hopeful and grateful for the love and support she has received.
“Thank you for your love and concern. #hindisusuko #tuloyangLABAN,” she wrote.
In 2024, Aquino revealed that doctors initially suspected she had colon cancer, the disease that took her mother, former President Corazon Aquino. Thankfully, tests confirmed she was cancer-free, though the experience was “devastating.”
While she continues her battle with multiple illnesses, Aquino hinted at a possible upcoming show before the year ends. However, it remains unclear whether the project will be digital or air on ABS-CBN.
After spending years in the United States for treatment, Aquino has recently returned to the Philippines for chemotherapy sessions.
